It is used mostly in savoury dishes, but also is used in some sweet dishes. Most turmeric is used in the form of rhizome powder to impart a golden yellow colour. Turmeric is also used fresh. It has numerous uses in East Asian recipes. 

Taste

Turmeric works well in complex blends, where it is pungent earthiness acts as a base to help to bind other flavours together. Add sparingly if it is to be used on its own, so that bitter notes do not overwhelm.
